The very first Crochet Tournament in Australia came to an end on Monday night. I probably should have spoken about it prior to this, but you know, life gets in the way, throw in everything else that’s going on in 2020 and well….that’s why I’m writing about it now lol.
Earlier in the year, I was approached by Lynda from Crochet Australia to see if I wanted to design a 50cm and 15cm square of for this special event. The idea arose after the cancellation of the 2020 Olympics, and with most people either in isolation or spending more time at home, this was the perfect time for such an event to occur.
It was going to be run similar to an olympic event. Where you have heats to qualify you for the grand final. Our heats were Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
Three heats = three designers = 6 exclusive patterns. That’s where the amazing Joy from Crochet Road and Shelley from Spincushions came in. It has been such a blast getting to know these ladies. So much so that we chat on a daily basis and feel strange when I don’t hear from them lol (see how awesome crochet is!!!!).
We zoomed each other and Joy was given the task of Beginner and Shelley Intermediate… off the ladies went and designed two amazing squares.
I was given the task to design an Advanced pattern WITHOUT photos. For those that know my patterns, I like to provide you with step-by-step photos for each round/row, so trying to design and word something that most could understand, was my challenge in this competition. I feel I’m not so good with explaining things in words. Hence the photos.
Anyhow… fast forward a few months and it’s done! It was a whirlwind, wonderful to see everyone grow, be challenged, learn things and make the most beautiful squares.
All six of our squares will be available for the public to purchase from the 1st September 2020! And what’s great is these patterns released from then, will have photos, charts and some even videos!!
Have a sneak peek for yourself!! Can you guess which ones are which heat?
I know I’m not the only one that’s excited about these patterns becoming available to the public… I’ll definitely be counting down the days.
