Information

Happy Days! It’s time for another crochet-along, it’s certainly been a while.

This CAL is due to start on the 13th October 2019.

Please have a look at the information provided and familiarise yourself with all the stitches.

Grab your yarn and corresponding hook, I’ve written it for 5 colours but there are 18 rounds so you could technically have any number up to 18!

I’ve never participated in a Mystery CAL before so I hope I’ve done it correct, if not, it will be a nice learning curve.

I will make the information below available as a PDF for those that would like to save it.

Materials:

5 colours (or however many you want to use)

Corresponding hook with yarn

Scissors

Yarn needle

Blocking equipment if you choose to block

My acrylic version weighs 68g and is approx 40cm
My cotton version weighs 44g and is approx 30cm

Notes:

  • Each round is started with a standing st unless otherwise stated – watch this video on how to make standing stitches

You can make standing stitches out of any stitch required by simply having a slip knot on you hook already and then make the stitch as per instructions e.g standing single crochet; with a loop on hook, insert hook into stitch indicated, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops, standing treble crochet; with a loop on hook, yarn over twice, insert hook into indicated stitch, pull up a loop, (yarn over and pull through two loops) three times
  • If you prefer an invisible join, please make one where it states to jss to 1st st to  – watch this video on how to make invisible joins
  • Finished piece can be blocked if desired
  • This pattern is written for different colours, with 5 colours used as a guide, you can be adventurous and use 10 if you like (each colour was used twice throughout)
  • I recommend weaving in ends at the very end of the project once you decide what you’ll be doing with it J
  • Clusters in this pattern refer to treble stitches
  • Repeats are within parenthesis and asterisks [  ] * * (  )

x-st – (photo explanation below) Think of this stitch as 4 components numbered 1-4,  – each component representing a ‘leg’ of the x. Below are two photos in order of how they are made, depending on what hand you hook with. (Watch this video for the idea of an x-st, the one in the video is an extended version)

The first photo represents a right-handed hooker; the second, a left-handed.

HOW TO X-ST: (written instructions – each line is a new step)

With loop on hook,

y.o twice and insert hook into indicated st,

pull up a loop,

y.o pull through two loops (leg #1 made & 3 loops remain in hook),

y.o, skip st, insert hook into next st,

pull up a loop,

y.o pull through two loops (leg #2 made & 4 loops remain on hook),

y.o and pull through two loops (these two front loops will be where you work your last leg into – 3 loops remain on hook), (y.o and pull through two loops) x 2 (leg #3 made, one loop remains),

ch 3, y.o and insert hook into two front loops created by leg #2 (the middle of the x-st),

pull up a loop,
