Granny Square Day 2023 Make and Design Along

It’s almost that time of year again when fellow crocheters create a granny square and post it on social media, a day to celebrate all things granny square.

This year (well, actually I’ve thought about doing something like this for a long time), I thought we could have some fun together.

You choose what we do for each round from two options, I croodle it and release what it is/was the next day, whilst asking what to do on the next round and so forth.

I am running it separately on Instagram and Facebook, essentially creating at least two different squares.

I will be releasing the pattern as we go and maybe you can make it along as well. They will be written in US and UK terms.

Here are the winning colours which were put to a vote:

The colours chosen for the Instagram Granny Square

Yarn: Hobbii Rainbow 8/6 in colours 30, 29, 98 and 55 – I am using a 4mm crochet hook with this yarn

The colours chosen for the Facebook Granny Square

Yarn: Stylecraft Naturals Organic Cotton in colours Amethyst, Mauve, Peach, Coral, and Peppermint. I am also using a 4mm crochet hook with this yarn.

I will update this post each day with the new rounds etc. Check below if you’re playing along with the Instagram or Facebook (or both) squares.

For joining future squares.
Yes, this is definitely doable. Even with the picots? Yep, sure is. You’ll actually join in the picots.

Make square number 2-x completing the end of Round 7. When you make Round 8, you will join in the picots. E.g Corner picots – instead of ch 4, then sl st back into prev sc (dc), you will ch 2, sl st into corresponding picot on the complete square, ch 2, then sl st into the front loop and last leg of the prev st made in working motif. Ch 3 picots will be replaced by ch 1, sl st into the corresponding picot on the complete square, ch 1, then sl st into the front loop and last leg of the prev st made in working motif.

You will still make your sc(dc) the same in between, just remember to double-check your stitch count as you.
